Mangalore, Mar 27: A cancer awareness programme was held at Milagres Church Hall here on Sunday March 25.

Milagres Church parish priest Fr Walter D'Mello, chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.  The programme was aimed at creating awareness among the people about cancer in general, causes and effects of cancer etc.

Dr Krishna Prasad, professor of Kasturba Medical College, Dr Kamalaksha Shenoy, professor of Kasturba Medical College, Dr Jalasuddin Akbar MS, professor in Kasturba Medical College were the resources persons for the programme.

They instructed a gathering of almost two hundred people regarding the causes of disease, how it can be detected at an early stage and how to bring down the enormous cost factor down.

This free awareness programme was organized by the husband of a lady who died lately of cancer.  The theme of the awareness programme was 'No mother should die of cancer for the lack of awareness'.  The organizer wishes to remain anonymous.  The programme was compered by Jerry Rasquinha.
