Mangalore, Mar 28: “The Roll of the Role” and “Where’s the Road?” films made by the Journalism students of St Aloysius College (SAC) Mangalore won the first and second prizes at the CMR Institute of Media Studies at Bangalore, on Tuesday.

The CMR Institute’s Media Fest “Campen” had many media competitions spread over two days. Short Documentary Film Making competition was one of them. Seven Colleges (including Symbiosis College, Pune) from all over the country participated in the film competition category.
 
“Roll of the Role” was a part of the “Shooting Stars -2007” film making competition-cum-film festival held by the Dept of Journalism of St Aloysius College, which won appreciation for its innovative topic and creative treatment. The short documentary deals with passing away of traditional games such as Channe Mane, Kunte Bille Lagori, and similar games, which entertained families in earlier times. Modern entertainment technologies like television and computer games have rolled into their role – is the bottom line of the film. It is made by Sandhya D’Souza, Mahima Bhat, Sindhu MV, and Madhuri Holla of second year journalism.
 
“Where’s is Road?” is a satire on the pathetic condition Mangalore roads, specially during June-December 2006 period. The six-minute documentary was done by Arron Menezes and Sandhya D’Souza of SAC Journalism with Dale Correia and Tanvi Narvekar of Xavier’s College Goa, during the National Documentary Film Making Workshop in October 2006. 

The film has been screened at many forums like Shooting Stars - 2007 (March 2007) and Indian Christian Press Association meeting in December. The film also won Anita Shenoy Award instituted by Anita Shenoy (advocate in Mangalore District Court) for the best documentary, recently.
 
Vidya Shankar (Suchitra Film Society Bangalore), K V Ramesh (former Editor, New Indian Express) and S Nandagopal (Times of India, Bangalore) were the judges.
