Mangalore, Apr 14: The 116 Birth Anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar was observed in the city by various organizations and district administration as well on Saturday April 14.

Prime function was held at Town Hall here at 9 in the morning which was inaugurated by district-in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty.  Though the function was to be inaugurated at 10.30 am, it was advanced since the minister had to go to Dharmasthala where Vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhavat was to visit there..

The programme was organized by DK district administration, DK Zilla Panchayat and Social Welfare Department jointly. 

MLA N Yogish Bhat presided over the function.  ZP president Sushma Janardhan, deputy commissioner M Maheshwar, deputy director of department of women and child development Gertrude Veigas, MLC Blasius M D'Souza were the chief guests on the occasion.

Elsewhere Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Bhimvad) also observed Ambedkar Jayanti in a unique way.  After the formal function they distributed rice and other groceries to some poor families of the locality.
