Mangalore, Apr 15: “Employees of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC) had suffered a lot owing to not being paid salary for some time. Now this major problem has been solved on an auspicious day called ‘Bisu’”, said B Nagaraj Shetty, state minister for fisheries.

He was speaking after distributing the benefit cheques to the voluntarily retired employees of KFDC at Hoige Bazar on Sunday April 15.

The fishermen's community of the coastal region had faced many problems over the past many decades. After the present government took over, lots of privileges given for the fishermen, he added.

Many have voluntarily resigned from their jobs for put the KFDC on a better financial foothold. Because being overstaffed was one of the reasons for the loss incurred by the KFDC. Now it is the duty of the remaining employees to work sincerely for the well-being of the corporation, he advised.

A total of 47 voluntarily retired employees received benefit cheques at the function. Mangalore MLA Yogish Bhat, Suratkal MLA Krishna Palemar, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Zilla Panchayat president Sushma Janardhan, KFDC president K Laxminarayan, K Sadashiva Shetty of INTUC, Sureshchandra Shetty of HMS, corporator Muralidhar Bolar, and deputy director of Fisheries Department Sureshkumar were also present at the function.

Veena M Shaktinagar led the prayer. V K Shetty welcomed the gathering. V G Pal compered the programme.
