Mangalore, Apr 26:  Applications have been invited to start community radio stations in rural areas from registered NGOs and educational institutions.

A press release stated that financial aid will be given by the state government to start the radio station, in the four revenue divisions of the state in 2007-08.

Only non-profit making organizations working for the welfare of the rural community for a long period will be eligible for starting the radio station. The aim of the radio station should be serving the local community.

Educational institutions, self-help groups, public trusts, agricultural research centers are eligible, but political parties are not eligible to start the radio stations.

Application forms will be distributed at district information department, and the filled application should be address to the commissioner, Information Department, Shivajinagar, Bangalore.

The last date to submit the application is Wednesday May 2.
