Mangalore, May 3: In a bid to step up its drive against child labour, the administration has decided to train child labour inspectors before Tuesday May 15.

A press release stated that deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao has instructed the assistant commissioners of Puttur and Mangalore revenue sub-divisions to train inspectors appointed under Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 and secretaries of gram panchayats.

Assistant commissioners have been appointed as supervisory officers to review the progress made by the inspectors and to train them, the release stated.

Regarding the absence of inspectors in previous training sessions, the release stated that assistant commissioners have been asked to take disciplinary action against the erring inspectors.

The heads of various departments were made to sign a declaration that they were not violating the child labour law by employing children as domestic help at their houses, stated the release.
