Mangalore, May 4: Parents of mentally-challenged children should take a medical practitioner’s help in training their wards and getting constant feedback, said A J Hospital head of the department of Paediatrics Dr Santosh Soans.

He was speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of annual evaluation of inmates of Saanidhya Residential School for the Mentally Challenged, stated a press release.

Bangaradka Vishveshwara Bhat spoke on behalf of the parents and said that parents should not consider their children as burden. They should understand their children’s abilities and weaknesses, he said.

School president Mahabala Marla honoured Beena Nanda Kumar on the occasion for her voluntary service during the year 2006-07.

Among those present at the programme were medical practitioner Dr Susheela Rao, principal Swapna Shetty, honorary secretary Vasant Kumar Shetty, vice-president Krishna Kumar, treasurer Jagadish Shetty and Trust directors M B D Rao, Nanda Kumar and Usha Shetty, the release stated.
