Mangalore, May 7: People below the poverty line should receive food grains on their old ration cards, said the Suratkal MLA Krishna J Palemar here in a letter addressed to the minister of food and civil supplies and consumer affairs Govind M Karjol.

According to letter, the food and civil supplies department had distributed BPL cards to identified beneficiaries but despite a survey some of the people were included in the above poverty line list by mistake while some farmers were left out from the list. Owing to this discrepancy in making the list, the government had instructed the department concerned to stop supply of subsidized food to many BPL families from April on this account, the letter stated.

Palemar urged the minister to provide foodgrains to people who have old ration cards and stated in the letter that most people in Suratkal assembly constituency limits were identified as belonging to below poverty line.
