Speaking on the occasion, Moily stressed on the need to develop and maintain ties with one’s alma mater and help it to grow.

He further urged other alumni of University College to donate funds for the construction of a building at the college for setting up a centre of excellence. A committee should be constituted in this regard to oversee the collection of funds, he said.

He lamented that the state of educational institutions in India was not at par with their foreign counterparts.

University registrar K Sunder Naik said that some of the alumni who had promised to donate funds for the new building have already forwarded their contributions. The total cost of the building would be Rs 3 crore, towards which Moily has already donated Rs 25,000 out of the Rs 1 lac he promised, he said.
