Mangalore, May 7: The team from India consisting of Adith Jagadish, a student of Derek’s chess school here, won the overall title in the 3rd World School Chess Championship organized at Halkidiki in Greece from Friday April 27 to Saturday May 5.

Abhimanyu Puranik from Mumbai, Ivana Furtado from Goa, Sweetie Patel from Gujarath, Meghana C H from Kochi and Savik M from Bangalore were the other members of the team.

Adith scored 6.5 points in 9 rounds and was placed 6th in Under-13 open category. Nikologorskiy Konstantin of Russia won the title in his category with 7 points, a press note stated.

According to a press release, Adith was in a 6-way-tie for 3rd place; his progressive points could reach him only till 6th.  It may be recollected that in Asian School Chess Championship at Singapore in 2006 he obtained 5th position in Under 13. 

Another student of DCS Nihal Manjunath scored 5 points in 9 rounds and was placed 28th in the same category. Adith and Nihal were accompanied by their coach Prasanna Rao.
