Bangalore, May 7: Karnataka water resources minister K S Eshwarappa on Monday hailed as ''first victory'', the admission of Special Leave Petition filed by the state before the Supreme Court on the issue of final verdict pronounced by Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Speaking to newspersons here he said the apex court had admitted Karnataka's SLP filed against the final verdict, which had rendered ''injustice' to the state. The state would wage a legal battle in getting its ''rightful'' share of Cauvery waters, he said.

The state had filed both original suit and an SLP in the Supreme Court against the February five verdict, which had allocated a major share of water to Tamil Nadu.

The government had also filed a petition before the CWDT seeking clarifications on certain parts of the final award.
