Mangalore, May 9: The Konkani textbook prepared under the aegis of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy for teaching in the schools in the state was submitted to the Directorate of State Education Research and Training (DSERT) earlier this week in Bangalore.

Satyanarayan Reddy, director of DSERT, received the textbook which was produced in Kannada script by the Konkani Sahitya Academy. On receipt of it, he assured that students who wanted to study Konkani in the coming academic year would get this textbook.

Victor Mathias Karkal, member of Konkani Sahitya Academy and also a member of text book review committee, Academy registrar H S Shivarudrappa, text book committee members Stephen Quadros and Aloysius D’Souza were present at the occasion.

The textbook prepared in Kannada script contains a syllabus for 140 hours. To bring out this book, Konkani stalwarts like Eric Ozario, Stephen Quadros, Aloysius D’Souza, Pundalik Marathe, Suvarna Gaad and Wilson Kayyar as an artist, Fr Valerian Fernandes of Ajekar, Dr Edward Nazareth and Victor Mathias as members of review committee had worked hard, said in a press release.
