Bantwal, May 10: Thieves who broke open into a house at Manchikatte near Manchi here on Tuesday May 8 night have decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 70,000.

The thieves said to have entered the house of Yajnesh Acharya, owner of Prema Jewellers of Manchikatte on Tuesday night breaking the latch of the back door.  Though all the family members were present in the house, no one came to know about the theft till the dogs started barking while the latters made their way out with gold.

Yajnesh used to take certain gold ornaments to his house everyday from the jewellery for security reason.  So it is said that someone who knew about this might have masterminded the theft since the former had taken ornaments to his house on Tuesday night too.

The thieves after entering the house had managed to open the cupboard and steal ornaments which were inside it.  A total of 10 sovereigns of gold has been stolen.  The value of the stolen ornaments is said to be Rs 70,000.

A complaint has been filed in Bantwal rural police station in this regard.
