Udupi, May 10: Not long ago the district government hospital was considered as one of the best government hospitals in the state.  But now it seems that days are near to forget that as more and more incidents of patients being neglected are coming to fore.

A person who had been knocked down by an unidentified vehicle was admitted to the hospital by Garuda police on Tuesday May 8 night.  He had sustained serious injuries in his head and was in critical condition owing to excessive bleeding.

But the hospital staff did not shift him to bed even after 15 hours.  He was made to lie on the ground and was there for long time despite several beds being empty.  Many of the patients who were admitted in the hospital said that none of the hospital staff bothered about shifting him to the bed.

But some of the patients who could not see his plight called up deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj and explained him the situation.  The latter immediately called up the doctor and asked to provide proper treatment to the stranger.

Members of Janapara Vedike said that this cannot be taken as one stray incident as it has been happening on regular basis these days.  There is a perception that poor people are neglecting for trivial reasons and even the staff are trying to dictate terms to the patients.
