Mangalore, May 11: A wrestling tourney will be jointly organised by Dakshina Kannada district Wrestling Association and Yuva Jana Sangha (Bokkapatna) at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13.

Speaking at press meet here on Wednesday May 9, association honorary president Sureshchandra Shetty said that the tourney will be inaugurated by Nitte Education Trust chairman N Vinay Hegde while Mangalore Sports Promoters president A Sadanand Shetty will preside over the inaugural ceremony.

Participants will wrestle for the titles ‘Tulunadu Kesari,’ ‘Tulunadu Kumar and ‘Master Shivaji’.’

Participants below 74 kg are eligible for ‘Tulunadu Kesari’ while those below 60 kg and below 36 kg may compete for ‘Tulunadu Kumar’ and ‘Master Shivaji’ titles respectively. The weight of the contestants will be checked between 8.30 am and 12 noon on May 12.

Competitions will also be held in 40 kg, 45 kg, 50 kg, 55 kg, 66 kg and 85 kg categories, Shetty said.

The winners in each category will be awarded cash, mementoes and certificates. The prizes will be presented by minister for youth affairs and sports Alkod Hanumantappa at the valedictory to be held on May 13 at 6 pm.
