Mangalore, May 12: Jamal and Asif alias Panther Asif, the prime accused in Puttu Monu have been granted bail by Dakshina Kannada Fast Track Court.
As reported earlier Ulaibettu gram panchayat member Puttu Monu had been murdered by Jamal, Asif, Sahul Hameed alias Ammi and Yakoob as per the instructions given by one Hasan Bava. The accused had later revealed that Hasan Bava had paid Rs 1 lac to Asif for the murder.
The murder was the result of personal rivalry between Hasan Bava and Puttu Monu's families over a trivial issue. A case had been filed in Mangalore rural police station in this regard against Hasan Bava's family. Thinking that Puttu Monu was instrumental in filing the case, Hasan Bava had masterminded the murder.
It was on July 8, 2006 that Yakoob had taken Puttu Monu to Ira on his mobike. However, after reaching a lonely place, he along with other accused had tied Puttu Monu and hacked him to death.
While Sahul Hameed and Yakoob had been arrested by police within a few days of the murder, Asif and Jamal had recently been arrested by Highway Patrol police.
