Bangalore, May 12: Two days after they arrived at Cameroon, frustration is running high among the family members of the Indian victims as they have not received any information whatsoever from the Kenyan or Indian authorities.
Bereaved Indian families of the Kenyan airliner crash victims told this website's newspaper that apart from meetings, no arrangements have been made for them to visit the crash site or the morgue.
Roy George Paul, brother of Ruby Marie, told this website's newspaper that despite the four-hour-long meeting on Thursday with representatives from the Kenyan Government and Kenyan Airlines, the families neither have any concrete information about the crash nor any idea as to when they would be able to fly back with the bodies.
“The representatives are not disclosing anything apart from telling us that the bodies are in bits and pieces and that rescue operations are still on,” Roy said.
He added that the authorities are giving them information about strategies adopted and the expert teams involved in combing the site and identification of bodies.
“A team from Europe called Blake is apparently in charge of identification of the bodies. But this is not the information that we are here for. It would be helpful if they could at least give us tentative dates about when they would finish the operations so that we will be able to go back home and return later,” Roy said.
Since the aircraft crashed into swamps and only 121 body parts have been recovered till now, the families said they were aware the rescue operation was complicated.
Voicing his frustration about the Indian authorities, Roy said that the Indian Designate to Kenya has not contacted the families yet, despite the fact that Indians were the second largest number of passengers on the aircraft after Cameroonians. “However, the Indian community here has been very supportive,” Roy said.
