No reduction in central grant over enclaves transfer

New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS): The union home ministry on Monday said there was no reduction in rehabilitation package for people returning from Indian enclaves in Bangladesh.

Denouncing media reports that hinted at reduction of central grant in relation to transfer of enclaves from Bangladesh to India, the ministry said: "There is no change in the position earlier communicated by the ministry of home affairs to the state government on June 3, 2015."

The ministry had received a proposal of Rs.3,008.89 crore for rehabilitation of returnees from Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and development of infrastructure in Bangladeshi enclaves in India, an official release issued here said.

The ministry "had agreed to incur an expenditure of Rs.2,625.06 crore out of which Rs.774 crore as fixed cost towards development of infrastructure and Rs.1,851.06 crore as variable cost depending on the number of returnees opting to come to India", it said.
