Narayana Health launches Cancer Institute for east India

Kolkata, Aug 12 (IANS): The Narayana Health Network on Wednesday launched a dedicated cancer care facility - the NH Cancer Institute- in West Bengal's Howrah for east India.

A multidisciplinary team has been constituted for this hospital which includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, haemoto-oncologist, radiologists and pathologists.

The multi-disciplinary facility, located in Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, is equipped with 240 beds, of which 100 beds have been reserved exclusively for cancer patients, said Deepak Venugopalan, zonal director, east, Narayana Health.

A team of about 90 doctors would take care of the entire operation in the hospital, while 75 other consultants would handle the OPD.

Last year, Narayana Health, founded by cardiac surgeon Devi Shetty, took over Westbank Health and Wellness Institute in Howrah.

Renaming it the Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, the group has added a number of departments in oncology to create a Centre of Excellence in Cancer Care.

These departments include oncoplastic breast surgery-oncology, gynaecology-oncology, haemato-oncology, head-neck surgery, paediatric oncology and pain and palliation oncology.

Apart from this, the hospital offers Cancer Combat Clinic for counseling of patients and second opinion clinics as well.
