Bengaluru: Girl dies in bee attack during flower show at Lalbagh

Bengaluru, Aug 19 (DHNS): In a freak incident, a seven-year-old girl died after she was stung by a swarm of bees at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens on Saturday. The incident occurred when she had gone there, with her parents, for the Independence Day flower show.

The deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi, a resident of Padmanabhanagar and class two student of a private school. On August 15, Vaishnavi, along with her father Guruprasad a software engineer and mother Suguna, a housewife, went to Lalbagh to witness the flower show.

Around 12 pm, the father and daughter went near Kempe Gowda tower in Lalbagh, where there was not much crowd. Vaishnavi was playing near a tree and suddenly she started screaming.

Guruprasad found that she was attacked by a swarm of bees. He went and tried to cover her and in the process he too was stung by the bees. They could not run away as hundreds of bees surrounded them and they were standing under the tree where there was a huge bee hive, said the police.

Suguna alerted the passersby, who rushed to the scene and managed to shoo away the bees. Vaishnavi was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was treated in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The doctors told the parents that she was stung by many bees and the condition was critical. Vaishnavi failed to respond to treatment and succumbed to her wounds, added police.

A case of unnatural death has been registered in Siddapura police station.

Feeling Very Sorrow about #babyvaishnavi #death by #bees in #lalbagh at #lalbaghflowershow #Bengaluru . Surely god rest this little angel in peace, Pray god give strength to her parents. Its unfortunate she would have survived, its purely #administrativeLapse, if our worst administrators would have taken proper responsibility in their work these type incidents not happening, When so much of people are visiting means Govt should made proper security arrangements. But from CM, Ministers,IAS to lower grade govt servants no one are responsible in their work and administration. Anywhere visitors don’t know whereabouts of non-secure zones, securing is responsibility of administrative wing. In Lalbagh bee hives presence is known thing to Horticulture dept for that they should have deputed each security person to beehive, by this people came to know about bees presence. Even in Lalbagh no proper security check and no one is there to stop any illegal activities. More ever “no emergency medical centre” and “way path to immediate exit” for further treatment are not there. Govt should suspend who are incharge and Head of Lalbagh and the head of the Horticulture Dept. If any VIPs are visiting most security arrangements are taken care same way Govt need to Draft a Compulsory Security arrangements advisory note to implement where ever common people are gathering in large scale. We #commonpeople should demand this if not no one #care about common people #lifeandsecurity .

Firstly she should have run away from the bees and secondly the father instead of covering her should have scooted from there with his daughter. This way the attacks would have be lesser. Somebody must have provoked the bees otherwise they don't attack without any reason. Once me and my friends were sitting on the steps of Jeppu Church, which had a huge bee hive on the window at the top of the front facade, after playing cricket. One of the boys threw a ball at he hive and immediately the bees came chasing us upto Cross road. They had stung some boys and I was lucky to escape unhurt.

Very very sad.still sad is she was not given immediate Treatment needed in such cases.on the spot a emergency doctor should be summoned and treat her to prevent shock and then Transfer to hospital.People should take care to avoid such incidents not to move in a garden with flowers etc with ice (Sweet).and please avoid using heavy perfumes which the bees are attracted immediately.with all precautions suppose you get a bee swarm attach try to jump in water .Apply ice bag for immediate relief.sometimes a small fire at the place withsmoke also makes them go away.My heartfelt sympathys to the Family.so one angel may rest in peace.(Only best Thing is dont make Hektik movements when bee Comes nearer, that makes them still aggressive).People with Asthma or allergicer must take their medicine always with them for such cases.

In most of the patients, what you said may be true, but not in all cases of bee sting anaphylaxis. We being medical men cant afford to give blanket statements, as each case scenario is different from the others.

Being a specialist in emergency medicine my strong opinion is if patient is brought alive to hospital with bee anaphylaxis she should survive with aggressive knowledgeable treatment. Its a avoidable death.percentage of death in western world for anaphylaxis in paediatrics is 0%.So my dear friends kindly go through upto date training in life saving emergencies if you are dealing with them

This is purely negligence by the Bangalore City Corporation. Why because when they take entrance fees from public, all kind of precautionary measurements must be taken by the local authority. But in this case no proper care or any kind of first aid treatment might not be implemented at the spot. So my humble request with the bereaved family to sue a criminal case against BCC Commissioner & there should be a strong lesson for all the govt. officials for showing negligence on rescue common people. Shame to BCC.

Beehives in public places and institutions should be removed. Without realising people tend to take photographs which could disturb the bees and result in such accidents. A heartbreaking incident of a loss of one precious life.
