Mumbai: Preparations held for nativity at Irla Velankani Church

Mumbai, Sep 7: The birth anniversary of Mother Mary, mother of Jesus Christ is being celebrated all over the world on Sep 8. Catholic groups and associations in the city are also preparing to celebrate the occasion in the local churches.




































Children decorated the statue of Mother Mary with flowers, threw flowers and conducted Novenas and offered masses. Children in order to strengthen their faith on Mother Mary visited the Mount Mary church in Bandra, Mother of Health Velankani church in Irla in Andheri west and Nithyadar Mother church in St Michael's at Mahim west.

It is believed that the mother comes to the help of devotees in the churches. Thousands of devotees who believe that the center is known for miracles, offered flowers to the mother and prayed to her.

The shrine has retained its importance with the belief that the Velankani mother always helps the poor and the needy. The shrine is attracting catholics who are conducting Novenas for nine days as preparations just before the celebrations.

The Velankani church in Irla that attracts Catholics from inside and outside the country is named after Velankani mother church in Chennai.

The Novenas in the church are held from 5 am to 10 pm for nine days as preparation for the feast. The Church is named as a symbol of religious harmony. The devotees waiting for the vision of Mother Mary has exceeded one lac.

The decorated statue of Mother Mary was taken in procession devoutly in Irla Velankani Church led by Chief priest Fr Augustine Pallot and Assistant Parish Priest Fr Vijay Pratap.
