Make taking oath on Constitution mandatory: Shiv Sena

Mumbai, Nov 30 (PTI): Shiv Sena today asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make taking oath on Constitution mandatory, replacing the holy books, so that the country can be pulled out of the tentacles of "religion-based politics".

"The Constitution should be the sacred book for (people of) all religions. All religions are equal before law and this was what late Bal Thackeray said," an editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamana said.

"All are equal before law but the Constitution is supreme before the law," the editorial said.

"Let people swear by the Constitution in courts instead of religious holy books," the Sena said.

"Modi has said it will be suicidal to think of replacing the Constitution given by Dr babasaheb Ambedkar. The PM also said the Constitution is a holy book.

"He should now extend that thought and pull out the country from tentacles of religion based politics," the Sena said.

Does it make any difference now a days?
Make those oath taking persons in the Government responsible for their act\actions when they err and punish them.
Without punishment it will not make them responsible at all and there is no value for their position held.

Respecting constitution is definitely a good sign, but making it above the divine books & laws is not appreciable & not acceptable.
Any materialistic love and respect cannot be superior to love towards God and His divine books & laws.
Any Human Law which contradicts with Divine law ought to be rejected, as Divine laws are passed by the Creator of Humans and the universe.
With due respect to my country would like to pen down few words In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
Muslims are generally obliged to abide by the laws of the land and the country they live in, whether it is a Islamic state (al-khilafa), Muslim countries, or non-Muslim countries such as those in the west, as long as they are not ordered to practice something that is against Shariah. If they are forced by the law to commit a sin, then in such a case, it will not just be unnecessary to abide by the law, rather impermissible.
Some Muslims are under the impression that it is permissible to violate the laws of countries that are not an Islamic state (al-Khilafa), which is totally incorrect. Muslims must adhere to the laws of any country they live in, whether in the west or the east, as long as the law is not in contradiction with one’s religion.
Sayyiduna Abd Allah ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “It is necessary upon a Muslim to listen to and obey the ruler, as long as one is not ordered to carry out a sin. If he is commanded to commit a sin, then there is no adherence and obedience.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 2796 & Sunan Tirmidhi)
The above Hadith is general, in that it does not distinguish between Muslim and non-Muslim lands, although the understanding of the scholars is that it generally applies to Muslim lands.

A most welcome and need of the hour suggestion! Something unexpected from the Shiv Sainiks who are usually being accused of being communal. Hope this will help in calming down the prevailing atmosphere of intolerance to some extent.

It is a good suggestion. But to implement it, we may have to amend the constitution accordingly where we need two third majority. At least this suggestion has open the minds of people. However whether the MPs/MLAs take oath on Constitution or on Holy books, what is more important is to keep the oath. At present, in spite of taking the oath on Holy books of their choice, are they keeping the oath?

Hahaha....After Congress, Shivsena is the main opposition party to Modi Govt. Still Modi failed to make Shiv Sena to stand unite with BJP despite being ally, then how Feku can bring the whole country together? So 'Ek Bharath, Shresht Bharath' will be a flop scheme, so this idea now. Thank God this time Shiv Sena just given the suggestion and not attacked Modi.

Persons like Abdul Rafiq don't want it to happen. They are afraid whether they will loose their blackmailing and crying foul tactics, if it happens.
