Puttur, Sep 27: The college students here blocked National Highway (NH) 48 after an iron ore-laden truck killed a college girl at Bedrodi in Bajattur village here on Wednesday September 26.

The traffic was disrupted for over an hour till Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty arrived at the spot and managed to disperse the agitators by convincing them of taking stringent action against the culprits.

Usha, a final year degree student of Uppinangady Government College was killed when an ore-laden truck hit her, while she was waiting for the bus.

The accident took place after the speeding ore-laden truck rammed into an Eicher truck parked besides the road.  As a result the latter moved abruptly for almost 25 metres.  It was at that time that Usha who was waiting for the bus was pulled along the road by Eicher vehicle. 

She was seriously injured and though she was rushed to a nearby hospital, she had breathed her last by then.

Uppinangady police have registered a case in this regard.
