Bantwal, Oct 6: A Tulu Academy award winning ‘Bhoota Nartaka’ (a person who performs role of traditional spirits of Tulunadu) Lokaiah Pambada (55) committed suicide by consuming poison here on recently. 

Lokaiah Pambada was a resident of Pelatakatte in Sajipamuda of Bantwal taluk. According to informed sources he consumed poison on late Thursday. Although he was rushed to the hospital immediately, he died without responding to treatment. 

He leaves behind wife and two children. It is understood that the engagement of both his son and daughter had just been concluded. 

Lokaiah was a well-known bhoota nartaka famous for his role of Rajan Daiva, Pambada and had been honoured with the Tulu Academy award in 2004.

MLA Padmanabha Kottari, littérateur Erya Lakshminarayan Alva and former minister Ramanath Rai have condoled his death.
