Udupi, Oct 7: Eco-tourism can be utilized to create awareness on protection and conservation of forests and beaches, said  additional principal chief conservator of forests development M H A Sheikh, here on Saturday October 6.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of the village forest committees’ meet here. According to him, they were developing a package for the pilgrims who visit the district to encourage them to visit forests and beaches. With the help of this package, awareness may be created towards forests and the beaches of the district, he added.

Shaikh also said that ‘Kandlavanas’ play a vital role in controlling sea erosion and also help in the protection of marine life. He even told the village forest committee that they play a significant role in protecting forest resources, and that the said natural resources can be protected only with the active cooperation of people.

President of Taluk Panchayat Geeta Prabhu presided over the function.
