M'lore: National Conference of Medical Microbiologists Inaugurated

Mangalore, Nov 16: The significant role of microbiologists in detection and treatment of diseases was praised by the medical fraternity from various specializations gathered at the inauguration of the 31st National Conference of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM) – MICROCON-2007 at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre

KMC dean Dr CV Raghuveer welcomed a galaxy of dignitaries and eminent scientists. Rich floral tribute was paid to Manipal Founder Dr TMA Pai on the occasion.

Manipal University Pro-Chancellor Dr HS Ballal stressed the importance of holding such national-level conferences in order to keep abreast of recent scientific advances so as to have a healthy educational environment between the teaching faculties as well as the students. He thanked the banking fraternity for coming forward and assisting the medical fraternity in conducting such scientific programmes.

The chairman of Karnataka Bank Ananthakrishna released the souvenir on the occasion. He expressed his pride to be associated with Dakshina Kannada district that gave five nationalized banks to the country and played a part in her growth. Speaking on the medical aspect of the conference he emphasized on the vital steps of prevention, detection and early treatment of diseases in order to make best use of the medical sciences.

The chairman of Corporation Bank B Sambamurthy inaugurated the trade fair at the conference. In his address he hoped that apart from being a rapidly growing economic giant, the fundamental of ‘Inclusive society’ along with efforts to eradicate infectious diseases should raise the ranking of India in the Human Development Index. He hoped the medical and banking fraternities come together to improve grass root living standards in the country.

Manipal University vice-chancellor Dr Raj Warrier released the conference logo and paid rich tributes to senior teachers gathered at the occasion.

Manipal University Registrar Dr H Vinod Bhat spoke about India being at a crucial zone of transition with regards to development which makes it all the more important to research and take action about the threat of emerging infections and existing non-communicable diseases. He expressed hope that deliberations of this conference help resolve medical issues for the country. He also called for the bankers present at the occasion to help the special task force fight the social cum medical problem of Malaria in the city.

Dr Abhay Chaudary from Mumbai, the secretary of the IAMM presented the annual report. IAMM President Dr HN Madhavan from Chennai presented the IAMM awards and prizes to eminent doctors for their services.
