M'lore: All India Konkani Parishad to be held in Kerala from Feb 1

Mangalore, Dec 1: The 26th session of the All India Konkani Parishad organized by Kerala Konkani Academy will be held at Town Hall, Ernakulam, Kochi here from Friday February 1 to Sunday February 3, 2008, stated a press release issued by Gokuldas Prabhu, general secretary of the Parishad from Mangalore.  

The decision in this regard was taken recently at a joint meeting of the All India Konkani Parishad, the Kerala Konkani Academy and the Reception Committee.

The meeting was presided over by TMV Shenoy, chairman, Reception Committee. Paul Moras, president of the Parishad, Sadanand Kanekar, working president, Dr Tanaji Halarnkar, ex-president, Gokuldas Prabhu, general secretary and Manikrao Gavnekar, treasurer were present at the meeting along with P N Shivananda Shenoy, working president, Reception Committee, P R Shanmugham, convener, RS Bhaskar, secretary, PN Krishnan, treasurer and other office bearers.

The conference will be the fourth conference in Kerala in three decades.  While Kochi hosted the previous conferences in 1978 and 1986, the conference in 2004 was held at Kozhikode. The 13th All India Konkani literary meet was also organized in Kochi in 1996.

It is expected that the parishad, which is scheduled to meet at Ernakulam after a gap of 21 years will be attended by a very large number of delegates from Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
