Media Release

Mumbai, Nov 15: Judean Women Cell of St Jude’s Church, Jerimeri celebrated Children’s Day on November 12 at the church, from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm.

Secretary Maria welcomed the chief guest Fr Lancy Pinto, parish priest. The programme began with lighting of the lamp by Fr Lancy Pinto, Flora D’Souza, Rani Fernando,
Sheila Chettiar, Sara Thomas, Sharlin Amalraj.

Fr Lancy Pinto and the coordinator Flora D’Souza gave inspiration speeches to the children as to why we celebrate Children’s Day.

"November 14 is the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter and first prime minister of independent India (Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru). This day is celebrated as Children’s Day because of his great love and affection towards children. Though he was a political leader, he spent most of his precious moments with children and loved their innocence and became famous as Chacha Nehru among the children. The celebration of this day reminds us to renew our commitment towards children’s welfare including their proper health, care, teaching etc."

"At this auspicious occasion, we express our feeling as Children become the happiness of society and home as well as future of the Country. We cannot ignore their involvement and contribution in the life of parents, teachers and other related people," he added.

"Children are liked by everyone and without children, life becomes very boring and upset. Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them'. They are blessed by God and conquer our hearts with their beautiful eyes, innocent activities and smiles. Children are considered as building blocks of the strong nation. Children are very small but have capability to change the nation positively. They are responsible citizens of tomorrow as development of the country lies in their hands. Children’s Day celebration also reminds us about their rights to which they are getting benefits or not. Children are leaders of tomorrow so they need to be respeced, specially cared for and protected by their parents, teachers and other members of the family. They are being abused, ill treated in many ways in our nation by their family members, relatives, neighbours or other strangers. Children’s Day celebration reminds about the importance of children in the family, society and country."

Fr Pinto siad, "Elders must take care of their children and see that they are given proper care, love, healthy food, clean clothes and security by the parents and family."

"Let us join hands together and take a pledge to secure the present and future of our children to make a beautiful nation by giving them a healthy living environment, their safety at home and outside home, good level of education and also utmost care and love to the disabled or sick children."

Various Telly games and spot prize games were conducted by the members of the Women's Cell. Rani Fernando and gGroup entertained the children by presenting action songs. Lavina Augustine compered the programme. Sheila Chettiar delivered the vote of thanks. As many as 75 children participated in the programme.
