Beltangady; Mar 31: They fell in love with each other at first sight. Later, both of them fell in love with the Indian culture. Accordingly, they decided to marry as per Indian tradition at a temple.

The love story of Australian national Lance John Brandish and German national Karin Gunthor began in the United Kingdom when the latter was studying there. But she had to come to India to pursue her higher studies at Alva’s Ayurvedic Medical College, Moodbidri. Her boyfriend Lance also joined her since he could not stay without her.

Both of them had an opportunity to attend the traditional wedding of Dr Prasanna Aithal, lecturer of Karin Gunthor at Alva's. They were immensely impressed by this wedding. Following this, they studied Indian culture and began appreciating the Indian tradition. Moreover, they realized the richness of Indian family system which keeps the couple united till the end. Finally, they decided to accept Hinduism.

Accordingly, their wedding was held at Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala on Monday March 31. They were converted to Hinduism through ‘Goprasava Shanthi’ rituals here while their wedding was held in Brahmin style. Both the bride and the bridegroom sparkled in the typical Indian dresses during their wedding ceremony. Their relatives were also attired in Indian clothes like saree and dhoti.

Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala attended their wedding and blessed the couple. Speaking on the occasion, he said that it is indeed an honour that westerners are attracted towards Indian tradition and culture. They have decided to live according to Indian tradition which binds them together for the rest of their lives, he informed.

Both Lance and Gunthor, while expressing their happiness to the media persons, said that they were committed to each other to live as per Hindu tradition and culture till their last breaths.

Congratulations to the newly married couple.May God give them all the happiness and success in their married life. When couples are getting married under the sea water, up in the sky and on the moon some day,If this couple chose to get married the way they have done why some people are bothered. I have no idea. Is getting married the way they wanted to, makes it a mockery just because they did not follow the rules set by certain community. Talking about the certificate, I am married for 27 years now still I dont have a certificate. My father did not have one and even my Grandfather did not have one. India lives in villages.

Go and find out there how many of our villagers have a marrige certificate. If a person wants to call himself Kamal Hasan, Sanjai Khan or Lakshmi Mathews- not confirming to their beliefs- whose going to stop them. They have a right so why bother. After reading all the comments the beauty of our socity can be seen! Maximum comments are happy ones barring few misguided one.

Marriage is a solem affair and an occassion to celebrate. Let them be happy and be happy yourself in their happiness. Live and let live.Hinduism and conversion can be topic of a debate in a larger prospective but not here plesae. This occassion is too solemn for these narrow mind sets.

The views expressed on the subject are astonishing. Westerners convert to Hinduism of free will but Hindus in India apparently do not have free will but convert because of threat coercion or bribery. One individual wants Christians to be Indians first but wants Hindus in India to be Hindus first.

Basically my liberal views were not respected by our fellow brothers, who have been avid visitors of this site, who have a difference of opinion with me. Well the word CONVERSION was not used by me. In fact this was how it was protrayed by the media and by th reporters and also how the marriage was conducted.

The phrase "They were converted to Hinduism through ‘Goprasava Shanthi’ rituals here while their wedding was held in Brahmin style." itself says. I dont understand why our dear brothers and sisters have to be sadenned by how we express our views. India is democratic, socialist, secularistic republic is what I would like to inform our brethern. Our constitiuon freely allows the freedom of speech.

For me religion doesnt matter, what matters is the person, who has to be a good human being first and then have an identity. We need to come to the aid of individuals who require our help and support. If any of our readers have felt sadenned by my views I sincerely apologise, but all I ask them is to see for themselves and ask themselves IF certain things can really be justified......!

Congratulation for the unification of a male and a female. But it is hights of mockery. Now could just clading into indian attire and chanting few mantras and a mangalsutra knot makes any a Hindu? Hinduism has a caste. Now to which caste does this newly wedded couple belong to? Who is authorized to issue them such certificates? Is it not a conversion? The marriage show was just a stupid exhibiton without thinking. If they have accepted Indian culture what do you mean by two foreign hearts binds?

I am very pleased to see that people from another culture have accepted the hindu faith, I am also saddened to read the comments of a few friends who call this union a "conversion" if they had any sense they should try and understand why these people from a far away country have come to our country and accepted our way of life and faith without any compulsion or any threat.

Conversion means changing the religion of a person by threat,co-ercion or bribing.. We wish this marraige will act as an example for other people from the west and more and more people will accept our faith and way of life.

Excellent coverage and photos. As per Ms. Lavina Pinto, may be conversion word does'nt suit here rather you can say its love towards Indian culture and traditional acceptance. You can also see most of the christians and muslim community wearing black bid chains called kariyamani mala which is very precious in Indian culture.

It seems such a wonderful ceremony for all the people including the couple. It portrays how tolerant we Mangaloreans are. That is why India is known as a socialist, secularistic, democratic republic. But I just can understand why there is no hue or cry on this CONVERSION of this couple into hinduism.

Am sure no country or the couples own countrymen will raise any hue or cry against this conversion. It is each one choice to follow any religion they wish. When europeans can set us examples why not us. Why make other conversions public and create anger and animosity against that religion and put them to hardships? We are lagging behind for silly reasons as such making other countries to open their eyes wide when they realise we are Indians, just because of many silly things as such we are always in news for. Its a question I have been long waiting to ask.

I am a lawyer by profession and know what I am speaking up. I hope this comment of mine goes through the scruitiny of the censors of Daijiworld and gets published uncensored. People wake up is all I can ask of every responsible citizen of India. Jai Hind!
