Udupi, May 14: For the smooth conduct of assembly elections in the district all security measures have been taken, said deputy superintendent of police M B Nagaraju here on Tuesday May 13.

Speaking to the press persons he said the district has 832 booths, of which 114 are hyper-sensitive and 373 sensitive. He also said that on the polling day 82 mobile squads will be deployed and 3,500 security personal including officers and paramilitary forces will be on duty.

Seventeen companies of Central Paramilitary Force (CPMF) will be on duty, comprising two companies of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), three companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and five companies of Border Security Force (BSF). Four companies of Kerala State Armed Police and five platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police will also be active in service.

The Naxal-effected areas have 43 booths of which 17 are in the forest area. For these booths a full section of CPMF will be provided. For the remaining 26 booths a half section of CPMF will be provided, and each booth will have wireless sets. Regular operations are being conducted by the Anti-Naxalite Force (ANF), he added.

Nagaraju said that till now 163 security cases had been booked against 317 persons and nine cases have been booked for the violation of code of conduct in the district.
