Karkala, May 17: One more person became victim of 'coastal districts' new death messenger' lorry near Mala here on Friday May 16 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Savita Moolya (17), a resident of Moodbidri.  She had gone for an outing with her lover Sudhakar Poojary (25) of Nelligudde on a bike.  They had been to Shringeri on latter's bike and were on their way back home when a speeding lorry knocked them down at S K Border.

Both Sudhakar and Savita were in love for sometime.  But their parents were against their love and had objected them from going on together. After this, Sudhakar had agreed that he would never meet Savita. But sources said that they were still going on and were used to roam around without the knowledge of their parents. While Sudhakar was a rickshaw driver at Moodbidri, Savita was working in a shop at Moodbidri.

On Friday morning, they had been to Shringeri without the knowledge of their parents. On their way back as they reached S K Border, a ore-laden lorry rammed into their bike while trying to overtake another lorry. Savita who fell on the road, died immediately while Sudhakar escaped with minor injuries. Though Sudhakar tried to flee away from the spot as soon as the accident took place, people managed to hold him back.

Meanwhile the lorry driver too had fled the place after the accident. But the alert police managed to arrest him at Shringeri with the help of locals.
