MANGALORE, May 18: The Election Commission (EC) has ordered a re-poll at booth number 159 in Illanthila village under Belthangady constituency.
The re-poll will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The move follows the failure of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during polls on Friday and a report by the district administration that the data in the said EVM was not retrievable.
Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer M. Maheshwar Rao said that the EC had gone through the facts of the case and ordered the re-poll.
The returning officer of the constituency and the election observer had submitted a report to the district administration, which had been forwarded to the EC. Mr. Rao said the administration would take all precautions to ensure smooth conduct of re-polling.
