Karnataka to construct guest house for Tirumala pilgrims

Bengaluru, Sep 15: Pilgrims from Karnataka visiting the famous Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh have some good news as the State Government has decided to construct its own guest house at Tirumala.

The new guest house would come up on 61,390 sq.ft. area near the temple. The cost of the building is yet to be estimated.

It was decided to renovate existing 86 rooms of the existing Karnataka Bhavan located in Tirumala and a community hall and a guest house on 20,000 sq.ft, in Tirupati.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday chaired a meeting with senior officials and instructed them to commence construction work of new guest houses, the community hall, and renovation of existing rooms of the Karnataka Bhavan.

Former Minister Krishnaiah Shetty has been offering food free of cost to all those visiting the Karnataka Bhavan.

    Who foots the bill for the guest house? Do the pilgrims have to pay per diem or are they "state" guests? What about other groups, pilgrims from other religious sects visiting similar places of worship? Can any other group, pilgrims or not, get a room to stay on pay by night basis? Or are the taxpayers on the hook for CM's initiative?
    The CM is known to make special concessions to Dalits; are these pilgrims from the Dalit community?
    Answer to none of these questions can be found in the announcement. I dpm't see comment from anyone else.
