Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 9: A number of electricity consumers of Padubidri, who turned restive over frequent and unscheduled loadshedding spanning over several hours at a stretch daily, mobbed the local office of Mescom at midnight on Saturday June 7. They were angry for the frequent power cuts spread over seven to eight hours daily, and also the indifference shown by the Mescom office to their frequent complaints and queries.

The protestors came to the Mescom office at about 11.30 pm. The staff manning the office grew apprehensive and locked themselves from inside. The branch manager of Mescom Sathish arrived on the spot, but the protestors did not allow him to enter the office. After some heated words were engaged between the protestors and the official, the Mescom manager relented, heard their grievances and paid a visit to the areas where the problem was acute.

The consumers have said, that the problem has eased to some extent, after they registered their protest in this novel way. BJP leader Ramakant Devadiga, Umesh Shetty, Padebettu Subrahmanya temple managing trustee Jitendra Shetty, Ashok Poojary etc., were among the protesting mob.
