Udupi: BJP zilla panchayat members express discontent over Tipu Jayanti in district

Udupi, Oct 25: Sumith Shetty and other zilla panchayat members from BJP,  on Tuesday, October 24, voiced their opposition against the 'Tippu Jayanti'  that is scheduled for November 10 in the district.

They expressed their dissent at the ninth zilla panchayat general body meeting here, at V S Acharya hall.

The BJP members asked the district administration to not celebrate Tippu Jayanti, because it would disturb the peace and harmony of the district. "A decision should be made and  sent to the state government in this regard," they said.



Pratap Hegde Marali said, "Tippu was not a true freedom fighter. Moreover, he was anti-Hindu."

Another member Raghavendra Kanchan said, "If the state government is truly concerned about Karnataka's development, it would not celebrate Tipu's birth anniversary."

Reshma Uday Kumar Shetty said, "The state government has called a tender to install a toll gate at Belman without bringing it to the notice of the local bodies. The road work is unscientific. The road has 32 humps in just 28 km distance. The government has decided to collect toll without any preparation."

"Government land which had an Anganwadi on it, was encroached by private players," he said.

Another ZP member said, the DC should not interfere in grama panchayat activities.

Lakshmi said, "There are no services available in Bapuji Seva Kendra except for sanctioning of RTC."

Shilpa Suvarna said, "Padur villagers did not get any compensation for the ISPRL pipeline incident. It has been four months ago. Nearly 120 people were injured in the blast."

Sheela K Shetty raised the issue of fault in names of beneficiaries of Basava Vasathi Yojana. "A beneficiary Kamalamma had to stop her house construction two years ago because of a fault in the registered name," he said. Engineer Of PWD D V Hegde said that he would looking into the problem.

Reshma demanded the police official conducted a re-survey of the distance between the wine shop and the  residential area, which was less than 100 meters.
 
A Karnataka State Coastal Zone Management authority officer read out the drafted plan of the CRZ area in the district.

"Karnataka State Coastal Zone Management Authority has considered the draft submitted by NCSCM during the meeting held on August 31. They have decided to publish the CZMP draft for public scrutiny, inviting objections, suggestions, and comments, if any," the officer said.

Public hearing in the regard will be held as per rules at the district-level. Chairmanship of the deputy commissioner of the concerned district will be held after due intimation of the date.

ZP CEO Shivanand Pavasi, president Dinakar Babu, Uday Kotian, Babu Shetty and other committee members were present.
