Real Madrid, Valencia win in La Liga

Madrid, Dec 10 (IANS): Real Madrid claimed an easy 5-0 win at home over a decaffeinated Sevilla in the La Liga football championship while Valencia saw off Celta Vigo to put the pressure on leaders FC Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday showed off the Golden Ball trophy he had been awarded during the week and celebrated with two goals as Madrid netted five in the first half, reports Xinhua news agency.

Nacho Fernandez scored following a corner after just three minutes. Twenty minutes later Ronaldo doubled the lead off a pass from Marco Asensio.

He then scored a penalty, before further goals from Tony Kroos and Achraf Hakimi sealed the win by the 42nd minute.

Valencia moved to within two points of league leaders FC Barcelona, thanks to a narrow 2-1 win at home over Celta.

Simone Zaza's 10th goal of the season put Valencia ahead midway through the first half, only for Iago Aspas to equalise a minute after the break.

It looked as if the points would be shared only for Dani Parejo to win the match from the penalty spot after Pablo Hernandez had handled.

Adrian Lopez celebrated his 100th appearance for Deportivo la Coruna with the goal which gave his side a well-deserved 1-0 win at home against Leganes.

The game between Getafe and Eibar ended 0-0.
