Mangaluru, Apr 15: Verbal friction between some youngsters and a person engaged in tattooing at the annual fair of Polali Goddess Rajarajeshwari temple on Saturday April 14 threatened to go out of hand. Sensing that the situation was about to out of hand, police resorted to caning.

On account of the annual festival, additional police forces have been deployed around the temple. Saturday happened to be the day for the last ritual of the festival, 'Avabhruta Snana'. During this period, arguments broke out between a person engaged in making tattoos and a few young men over rates charged by him. Sensing trouble, the police took a youth into custody. The other youngsters demanded his release.

As arguments continued, the police caned the people to disperse the mob. They tried to take away the man away in their vehicle when a large crowd of youngsters gathered and urged them to release the young man. On ts occasion, some temple officials and office bearers intervened, held talks with the police, and arranged for the release of the youth.
