Lucknow: One killed, Six Hurt in Attack on BJP MP's Convoy

Lucknow-Azamgarh, Sep 7: One person was killed and six others were injured in an attack on BJP MP Yogi Adityanath's convoy in Azamgarh district on Sunday triggering tension in the area as all educational institutions have been closed for the next three days.

The MP's cavalcade was attacked on Sunday afternoon when he was going to address an anti-terrorism rally at the DAV ground in Azamgarh and passing through Takia area with minority population.

"Adityanath's cavalcade was followed by 20-25 motorcycle- borne youth, who were raising objectionable slogans leading to stone pelting and firing", Home department sources said.

One seriously injured Maniullaha succumbed to his injuries at the hosptial later in the evening.

All the injured were out of danger, Home department sources said, adding that 12 persons were arrested in this connection and heavy deployment of police force made in Azamgarh district where all schools and colleges have been closed for the next three days.

A number of vehicles including that of SP and Chief Development Officer were also damaged in the incident.

The rally was organised by the BJP and Hindu Yuva Vahini to protest a meeting organised in support of SIMI activist Abdul Bashar after his arrest on August 11.

Adityanath later addressed the rally in DAV ground of the city and criticised those patronising terrorists.

He said that such elements should be dealt with strictly and petty politics should not be played in such matters as it was related to country's security.

He also said that those organising meetings and protesting arrest of terrorists and their agents were anti-nationals who should be brought to book.
