Bengaluru, May 13: A day after the perhaps most contentious assembly polls, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Dr G Parameshwara on Sunday made it clear that his party was not worried about the hung assembly predictions by exit polls and expressed confidence of the ruling Congress party securing a comfortable majority of its own.
A relaxed and jovial KPCC Chief, who addressed the media at the KPCC office on Sunday, asserted that the ruling party will romp home comfortably.
"The question of hung assembly never arises and we are going to form the government once again," he said.
Dr Parameshwara said the Congress party’s surveys were more reliable as they covered the entire State unlike the limited sample size of the exit polls.
"Our own internal surveys have not let us down as most of them have predicted that we will emerge as the single largest party and form the government. Yes, we are coming to power and it is 100 % true," he said.
Asked if the party would approach the JD(S) for support to form the government in the event of a hung assembly verdict, he said that question does not arise at this point of time.
"We are confident of victory. I cannot talk about what may happen later based on assumptions or exit poll verdicts," he said pointing out that exit polls have proved wrong in the past too and even in 2013, when exit polls came out with similar findings.
Answering questions, he said the party high command will take note of Dalits’ aspiration for the Chief Minister’s post as there was similar demands in 2013 itself.
The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) would meet on May 16 or 17 and the party will take a decision after reviewing the results, he said.
He said there were a dozen aspirants for the top post, including himself, and ultimately the CLP will elect its leader and the party high command would take a final decision.
Dr Parameshwara said there was nothing wrong on party leaders aspiring for the top-most post as all have contributed to the growth and success of the party.
He refused to discuss the negative comments by BJP leaders, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah, and said the people have watched everything. "Let us now await the results," he said thanking the people and party workers for their support.
