Kundapur: Famed Lord Kotilingeshwara Temple Covered by Water on All Sides

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Sep 12: The ancient Lord Kotilingeshwara temple located at Koteshwar near here, has been covered by water on all sides, with the continuance of the downpour that has been experienced in the region since the last few days.

Because of improper drainage system, the water that flows on the car steet, has made its way into the temple premises. The outer compound of the temple is covered by around two feet of water. The rains have also created several pools and ponds on the roads in the town and also the Koteshwar by-pass. Several light vehicles slipped and fell in the pot holes on the roads, unable to identify them because of standing water.

In Kundapur town, low-lying areas have been inundated in water and after a huge tree got uprooted because of speeding wind, electricity supply was severed. A few farmes whose fields are located at a higher plateau are happy over the rains, while the majority whose fields are at the sea level, are worried over their standing crops getting damaged.  Travelling on the national highway upto Santhekatte near Udupi from Kundapur has become a nightmare.

Udupi received 12 cms of rain during the last 24 hours, with Kundapur and Karkala accounting for 10 and 14 cms respectively.
