Mangaluru, Aug 18: The Kodava Students Association of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will collect relief materials on August 19 and 20, which will be sent to rain ravaged Kodagu district.

Addressing media here on Saturday, August 18, advisor of Kodava Students Association S P Chengappa said, "The relief material will be collected on August 19 and 20 at SDM Law College from 9 am to 5 pm. Materials like medicines, blankets, tooth paste, brush and other necessary things will be collected and will be sent to Kodagu district.”

“Kodagu district has been completely devastated by continuous rains which have claimed 6 lives. Over 200 people are reported missing. More than 500 people are stranded due to landslides. The entire Kodagu district is in a critical condition. While many places are submerged in water, rains continue to lash the district,” Chengappa said expressing concern.

"Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioners are working hard in carrying out the rescue operations. DRF, army, coast guard and navy also are conducting rescue operations,” he added.

"Government has given Rs 100 crore as relief, but as Kodagu is devastated completely we demand Rs 1000 crore as relief,” Chengappa demanded.

He requested people in DK district to lend a helping hand and generously contribute relief material aid. “We have also contacted other organisations to donate relief materials,” he said.

General secretary of the association Karan Mutthana said that he has lost contact with his family members as there was no network or electricity in his native place. “It has been over two days since I spoke to my family on phone. However, I have been informed that they are safe,” he said.

Vice president Shefali Chengappa said, "My relative’s house at Kushalnagar is submerged in water. They have been shifted to a cousin's place. I have lost touch with them as there is no network,” she said.

Advisor Ajith Bopayya, Treasurer Khushi Nanjappa, Neha Neelamma and others were present.

Humanity is first; politics is later.
Kindly do not politicize the disaster and relief operations.
Be it our own Kodagu or Kerala. If we are real humans, all are our own.
Be kind and symphathetic; today it's theirs!
CM Kumaraswamy is really monitoring the relief operations in Kodagu seriously.
