Mangaluru, Sep 20: University College celebrated its 150th Foundation Day at the college premises at Hampankatta on Thursday, September 20.

Former chief minister Veerappa Moily said, "Students should think seriously about their future. Past always pulls you down, but future always lifts you up. You should work hard to achieve your goal. Many years ago, when I visited this college, the condition the college used to be pathetic.

“Being an alumnus, I took up the initiative to develop this institution. This institution taught me how to speak, and face the public. We discussed and decided to develop this institution and planned accordingly,” he said.

Former chancellor Prof M I Savadatthi said, “Education is a continuous process. The differentiation in education started after the division graduation and post-graduation. Usually, students are interested in studies during graduation, but lose interest when they reach post-graduation. A few of them want a degree, but do not want to study. Only 20 per cent of the students come to limelight, while the rest do not. We should not ignore them but should encourage them to come up.

“Nowadays, teachers do not have the habit of reading. Teaching profession is like continuous learning. We need leaders in education sector,” he said.

Principal of the college Uday Kumar welcomed the gathering.

MLC Bhojegowda, former minister Ramanath Rai, mayor Bhaskar Moily and others were present.
