Mangaluru, Sep 22: People's Association for Geriatric Empowerment (PAGE) observed World Alzheimer’s day here at Town Hall on Saturday, September 22.

PAGE President Dr Olinda Pereira, along with former MLA J R Lobo and other dignitaries, inaugurated World Alzheimer's Day.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner (DC) Sasikanth Senthil said, "As a community, we should take responsibility in taking care of senior citizens and we should never ignore them. This programme should reflect on getting a solution for Alzheimer’s disease, as solution lies in understanding everything and we should put efforts in understanding the reality,”

Former MLA J R Lobo said, "Youngsters should understand that when they grow old, they may also suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Youngsters need to respect the elderly and take care of them with love and affection. If we fail to respect the elderly, then society cannot be healthy. Respecting the elderly should begin at our house and then automatically the society will start respecting them,”

District Health Officer Dr M Ramakrishna Rao said, "This programme is very encouraging and motivating. Alzheimer's is not a disease but a social problem. Society needs to support the elderly and encourage those who suffer from Alzheimer’s. Instead of cornering them, we should show love, care and affection towards them, so that they can live a better life,”

Meanwhile Dr M Ramakrishna Rao released PAGE primary health care tool kit book.

PAGE vice-president Dr Prabha Adhikari welcomed the gathering.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, senior civil judge Malanna Gowda, registrar Yenepoya University Dr G Shree Kumar Menon, PAGE secretary Jeradine D’Souza, joint secretary Mohan Raj and others were present.

Yes we have to give respect for the elderly. If we don’t look after our elderly parents property we will not live long on this earth and gods curse will fall not only on the children but future generations as well.!!
I remember an incident which took place in my family. An arrogant daughter in law not allowing her husband to give good food and the whole day shouting and abusing. And keeping the poor old woman in her 90s on a wheel chair for 12 hrs. One day old woman’s daughter went to see her at that time she was in a semiconscious state.immedietely she admitted her to a hospital. Just imagine how one can sit in a sitting position for 12 hrs.? That also after paying 30 thousand per month only for feeding rice water. This wicked woman was not allowing to give soups and nutritious food instead she was drinking and eating from this 30 thousand. Shameless woman
