Udupi, Sep 25: Shaman Shetty, a young man from Sooda near Shirva here, who was lieutenant in Indian Army, has been promoted as Captain. Shaman, who had done exceedingly well in the UPSC examination by securing 33rd rank, had joined the Indian Army in 2017 as officer lieutenant.

Shaman Shetty is the son of the late Sudhakar Shetty from Udupi Bailoor Padumane, who was an entrepreneur in Mumbai, and Sooda Kallabail Shobha Shetty. After completing his training in the officers’ training academy at Chennai, he had been appointed as officer lieutenant in Indian Army in the year 2017. Having been posted to the ninth Rajputana Rifles Infantry battalion, he had served in Assam in the capacity of lieutenant. Now he is discharging duties as captain in the army camp of Assam regiment.

Shaman was born in Sooda in Karkala taluk, and had got his primary, secondary school and PU education at Mumbai. He had completed his engineering degree with distinction through Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology, Davanagere.

Capt Shaman Shetty happens to be a member of the battalion intelligence team, and in an operation, had caught terrorists alive. In recognition of his meritorious service in the Operation Rhino, the commendation card for gallantry honour of the general officer commanding-in-chief of eastern command was conferred on him on September 22 in the presence of eastern army commander and regiment colonel, Lt Gen Abhay Krishna in the presence of Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat.

Capt Shaman Shetty says that he was promoted as captain with the support of the blessings of his mother, senior members of his family, and on account of efficient and honest services. He feels lucky to have got an opportunity to serve the country by being a protector of the country in the capacity of being a member of the Indian Army.
