Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhan stages 'Sangeeth Saunsar' programme on International Music Day

Mangaluru, Oct 8: Mandd Sobhan troupe of singers staged 'Sangeeth Saunsar' musical programme as part of its 202nd 'Mainyali Manchi' (monthly theatre) on International Music Day, October 7 at Kalangan, here. Veteran musician Melwyn Peris rang the bell and set the programme in motion. Sixty singers took part in the programme.

Famous Sitar artiste and music teacher Rafik Khan was honoured and conferred upon the title 'Sangeeth Saurabh' by Mandd Sobhan president Louis J Pinto. Usha N Pereira conducted the felicitation programme.



The Sumel troupe earlier sang manddo songs 'Daryacha Larari', 'Sobhith Belar Meena', 'Chedwago Chedwa, Derantunch Sanko', 'Sadan Hanv Vavrak Vetan' and 'Ek don teen chaar' followed by 'Mogi Mazo vaat moji raktha', 'Geemanth Ashi Nathelli Prathvi', 'Pimplacha Rukani', 'Kalvantacha Kamraveri' and Gumat song 'Ho Tandulo'.

Poem written by late Ravindranath Tagore in Bengali with Rabindra music 'Amaro Porano Jaha Chahi', was sung by Jason Lobo. Lisha D'Silva sang a famous English song from the seventees 'Blue Bayo' from the album 'My Dreams'. The entire troupe sang Negro spiritual song 'Joshwa fit the battle' in the end.

Eri Ozario provided music to the songs written by Cha Fra, Melwyn Rodrigues, Lloyd Rego and Anil Patrao.

Irene Rebello, Raina Castelino, Kavita George, Bertha Picardo, Sonal Monteiro, Sonia D'Souza, Diyal D'Souza, Prithuma Monteiro, Simon Monteiro, Kethan Castelino, Melony D'Silva, Ria Noronha, Arvin D'Cunha, Mithun Noronha, Neha Castelino, Sunil Monteiro, Anil Patrao, Eric Ozario, Jason Sequeira, Dr Sanjay Fernandes, Reynold Lobo, Aston, Haydon, Olita, Joylin, Oshin, Lisha and others rendered their voices.

Blue Angels troupe 'India has got talent' fame under the leadership of Denzil Pereira sang a song from the CD 'Shetan Merer', a chain of Bollywood songs from 1950 to 1990 and songs in different languages. Derick D'Souza, Neil Coelho, Crisel Vaz, Preemal Serrao, Hanson Rego, Valentino Mascarenhas, Anisha D'Souza, Anet D'Souza and others sang songs in four voices.

Roshan Crasta joined in guitar, Alron Rodrigues on keyboard and Damodar Kumble on the tabla.

Irene Rebello and Vtori Karkal read poems in the beginning as homage to late Seema Alvares, wife of Mandd Sobhan coordinator Stany Alvares, who passed away recently. President and office bearers offered flowers to the portrait of Seema.

Reynold Lobo compered the entire programme.
