Puttur, Nov 10: ‘Yuva Samavesh-08’, a convention of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Eastern deanery of Mangalore diocese was held on Sunday November 9, at St Joseph’s church premises, Borimar, near here.
The convention was inaugurated by Navin Martis, vice-president, Borimar parish council, and presided over by Borimar parish priest Fr Gerald Pinto. Joacquim D’Souza, former regional president, Catholic Sabha, was the chief guest of the occasion.
Games, quiz competitions, and other contests, were on till Sunday afternoon. Each ICYM parish unit staged variety cultural events after lunch. The valedictory function was presided over by ICYM director Fr Anil D’Souza while District Congress Committee (DCC) chief secretary Dolphy Prashanth D’Souza Bantwal, was the chief guest.
ICYM unit of Our Lady, Virgin of the Poor church, Uppinangady bagged the overall championship in various competitions. The ICYM unit of St Antony church, Bannur, and ICYM unit of Mai De Deus (Mary Mother of God) church, Puttur, bagged the second and third prizes, respectively. The convention was attended by around 125 youth from 14 parishes under the deanery.
