Puttur, Nov 17: Puttur Citizens' Welfare Forum has decided to launch an agitation to bring pressure on the railways to commence movement of day train between Mangalore and Bangalore.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the committee held under the presidentship of ex-MLA K Rama Bhat. In the first phase, memorandums will be handed over to the people's representatives, urging them to launch the train. Later, a 24-hour dharna will be held at Puttur railway station. As a last measure, a public interest litigation will be filed in the state High Court, the meeting decided.

The time table of the Mangalore-Bangalore day train has been published. This train was also approved in the budget. But, the Hassan-Mangalore Railway Development Board is happy running only the goods trains on this route. The Board is meting out step-motherly treatment to the passenger trains, the participants of the meeting opined.

Puttur municipal president Rajesh Bannur announced at the meeting that the connecting roads to Puttur railway station will be repaired by the municipality, if they are handed over to the municipality. A decision on the same will be taken in the next general session of the municipality, he added.

The meeting also adopted a resolution to pressurise the department to improve basic facilities at the local railway station. Forum convener and senior advocate M Ram Mohan Rao informed that the Forum will take up a peaceful and apolitical agitation within the legal framework to achieve its aim.

Advocate B Narasimha Prasad welcomed. Advocate P K Sateeshan delivered introductory address. Advocate Jayanand proposed vote of thanks.
