Bantwal, Dec 4: The indefinite strike undertaken by residents of villages neighbouring the Shamboor A M R Power Project, saw its third day on Wednesday December 3.
The protestors, shifted their location to the power plant from opposite the taluk panchayat office at B C Road, where they had begun their protest on Monday December 1.
As a result, around 60 trucks carrying construction materials to the project site, were stopped from plying on Wednesday. The agitation got a major boost as office-bearers of the local gram panchayat, social and voluntary organizations, as well as people’s representatives such as MLA B Ramanath Rai and other political leaders, extended their support to the cause.
Congress leader Harikrishna Bantwal, addressing the protesters, said that residents should be united in their struggle in opposing vested interests that jeopardize their livelihood under the guise of development.
A M R Power Project authorities are playing with the lives of villagers and cheating them, alleged Bantwal. He expressed his support to the villagers' struggle for justice. Veteran leaders Prabhakar Rai, and Alphonse Menezes, former member, taluk panchayat, were among those present.
