Kasargod, Feb 5: In connection with the murder of Sundar Naik (52) from Padre Kuntikan Aralikatte by bludgeoning him with a stick and secretly incinerating his body, the police have arrested three persons. Naik's son and brother are among the arrested persons. With the help of sniffer dog, a blood-stained cane that was reportedly used for the murder, was recovered from inside the shed.

The arrested persons happen to be Jayanth (28), son of Sundar Naik, his brother, Ishwar Naik (68), and Ishwar's son, Prabhakar (37). These arrests were made by a special investigating team led by assistant superintendent of police (ASP).

ASP, D Shilpa, visited the spot. Badiyadka sub-inspector, Melvyn Jose, assistant sub-inspectors, Shvadasan and Madhu, and other policemen, arrested the accused. Sniffer dogs and forensic experts also visited the spot.

It is said that Sundar Naik used to come home drunk and stay aloof thereafter inside a shed near his house. His wife had complained to the police twice against him, and both times he was let off with a warning. On the night of January 30, he had come home at 9.30 pm in an inebriated condition and raised a din. He then beat ups his wife. Hearing the sound, Ishwar Naik and Prabhakr, who live in the next house, came there. As the quarrel continued, Jayanth, working in a petrol bunk at Perla, also came home. In spite of their efforts, Jayanth could not be calmed down, it is said.

In a fit of rage, Ishwar Naik then hit Sundar in the head with a cane. Sundar fell down unconscious with bleeding head. He was taken to a hospital at Perla in a van of a relative but the doctors asked him to be taken to Mangaluru in view of critical condition. Then an ambulance of Enmakaje panchayat was brought and Sundar was kept inside the ambulance. However, as Sundar died later, the body was burnt down without informing anyone.

Another brother of Sundar, Narayan Naik from Manaiyampare, who came to know about the incident, complained to the ASP. When the accused were taken into custody and questioned, they confessed to the crime. All the three now face murder charge.
