MITK inaugurates 24-hour national-level AI hackathon in Kundapur

Kundapur, Oct 9: The 24-hour national-level hackathon ‘MITK AI VISION 24H’, themed ‘Ideas Today, Impact Tomorrow’, was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at the auditorium of Moodlakatte Institute of Technology (MITK) on Friday, October 9.

Prashanth Jayaram, Data Evangelist at Commvault, Bengaluru, inaugurated the event and highlighted the transformative impact of data and artificial intelligence (AI) on the industrial sector. He urged students to move beyond textbook learning and focus on project-based learning. He also emphasised that hackathons provide an excellent platform for students to use AI technology to develop solutions that benefit society.

Gurumurthy S B, assistant vice president at a Tier-1 technology company, attended as the guest of honour. He said that accurately identifying problems and developing effective solutions using coding and AI tools had become essential in the corporate world. He added that continuous technological innovation was crucial for students aspiring to become successful engineers.

Dr S N Bhatt, director of academics at IMJ Institutions, presided over the inaugural function. In his presidential address, he encouraged students to prepare themselves for an increasingly competitive world shaped by rapid technological advancements. He said that national-level hackathons of this nature help nurture creativity, innovation and the ability to solve real-world problems using AI. He also stressed that learning and persistent effort were more important than winning or losing.

Dr Ramakrishna Hegde, principal of MITK, welcomed the participating teams from various colleges across the country and reiterated the institution's commitment to developing students' technical skills.

Dr Manjunath Ramanna Lamani, head of the department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), delivered the introductory address and welcomed the gathering. The event coordinator, Dr Muthuveelu Lakshmikantha, proposed the vote of thanks. Students Trisha and Alisha Bishop compered the programme.

Heads of various departments, teaching and non-teaching staff, and participants from different colleges were present on the occasion.
